NSPC 18 – An opportunity for collaboration & support
Posted 2nd August 2018
With the 2018 National Suicide Prevention Conference (NSPC) now at a close and all attendees back on the ground at their respective organisations, the Life In Mind team would like to share some insights on what they learned from the event.
The three day event which included pre and post conference workshops provided an opportunity for more than 500 delegates from the suicide prevention sector and those with lived experience to meet and discuss a range of topics, research, resources and initiatives focused on suicide prevention.
Below are some comments from the Life in Mind team on what they found valuable at #NSPC18.
“It was great to see so many attendees engaging in open, honest and safe #YouCanTalk conversations about suicide at the NSPC18.”
“By sharing insights on projects, initiatives and collaborative plans in one central forum, the conference offered the opportunity for a diversity of voices to be heard, especially those with lived experience and those from regional and rural communities.”
“I am looking forward to continuing these valuable conversations post the summit and ensuring that Life in Mind continues to serve as a platform for people to access national resources and information.”- Amanda McAtamney, Project Lead, Suicide Prevention, Everymind.
"The 2018 National Suicide Prevention Conference brought home to me the sheer breadth and diversity of suicide prevention work which is currently underway and planned across Australia.”
“A defining strength of the conference was the focus on evidence-informed practice, highlighting what is known to work.”
“The take-away message of the conference for me was the insights shared from ReachOut’s CEO Jono Nicholas who described the need for a strong focus on collaboration in the suicide prevention sector.” – Simon Pont, Senior Project Officer, Suicide Prevention, Everymind
